Spotless Crake, Pukepuke Lagoon

These crakes are relatively common in marshy areas in NZ, but are really hard to see.  Tiritiri Matangi island is a good spot to look for them.  I found a pair at Pukepuke Lagoon north of Foxton in the Manawatu.  They respond well to taped calls.
