North American birding sites

We haven’t done much birding yet in North America.  Only a couple of places are listed here.

Las Gallinas, San Francisco, CA

These ponds are about an hours drive north of San Francisco across the bridge.  There are good walking tracks around the wetlands where there are plenty of water birds including Pelicans.

Cape May, New Jersey

The Cape May area is noted for Hawkwatch and migratory warblers at certain times of the year.  Starting with the Cape May Bird Observatory, we spent several days in the area seeing a range of warblers and some raptors including Ospreys on a boat trip.  You need to pick the right time of the year, and probably stay in the area for several days if you want to see the large raptor migrations in Autumn (Fall).  Spring is the time for the Horseshoe Crabs.
